david I like that, JK- musically not at all like Mercedes, but the spirit is the same.
JK2006 Seems to be a good thread to add my favourite and much under estimated Little Steven song; Los Desaparecidos.

david Mercedes Sosa was a champion of the poor and voiceless, and fierce opponent of the military junta.

One of the most spine tingling moments I have ever had in a live performance was improvised moment at a concert in Vienna in 1999, when she introduced a rousing version of one of her signature songs, Todo Cambia (Everything Changes)

As she introduce the song, she welcomed the various Latin American ambassadors present in the audience, before laughing and saying "Of course many years ago people like you wouldn't have been seen anywhere near me, but how nice of you to come. As this song says "Everything Changes", and Pinochet is today a prisoner in England!". All 5,000 people in the audience stood and cheered, stamped and shouted. I will never forget that moment as long as I live.

Here is a rousing performance of that song, showing what an emotional rapport she had with her audience.

The world will truly be a poorer place without this wonderful woman. I will miss her badly.

Adiós, la Negra.
veritas great music..lovely and inspiring voice.

I just watched an interview here with Miriam McKeba who was in Adelaide for a festival and it was followed by a concert she gave at the Royal Albert Hall in the 80's. Sensational.
david I was very sad to hear the news.

I was lucky enough to see Mercedes Sosa live many times and to meet her.

What a truly remarkable performer and courageous woman. The world is a poorer place without her.
