Emma Bee Ooh. Those white shoulders threw me off. They must not normally be as visible. I only tend to see them on the feeder from a distance. Beautiful bird.
JK2006 Emma - spot on I reckon (my neighbours on the corner have huge tall picture windows) and my brother Andy identifies it as a chaffinch and gives this link to its delightful song...

Emma Bee Poor bird. Looks as though it flew into a window or was hit by a car. There is usually no obvious sign of damage. I must admit I've never seen those markings before. You should send the photo to Bill Oddie.
JK2006 I can see no obvious damage at all; it's almost as though it's sleeping. Completely wonderful; magnificent subtle plumage of white, brown, light green, yellow and grey and the white feathers on the shoulders are so fluffy and soft.

Anyway, off to see Michael Jackson to cheer myself up.
Angel So sad. Beautiful creature. Perhaps the result of an encounter with a pussy cat?
