In The Know He's also fulfilling his promise to close Guantanamo by putting some suspects on trial in New York.

IF there were any evidence this could have been done NINE years ago !

I wonder what the suspects will confess to (now they have been tortured 183 times) - plus of course we don't (yet) know how much torture they endured during the "missing" three years when the USA was sub-contracting their torture, do we?
veritas good reply..but US administrations really are such hypocrits.

I still have hopes Obama will make some good changes.
Dominic Dee In fairness Barrack Obama did vote against the invasion of Iraq and has set in motion the withdrawal of troops much earlier than Bush has intended. As President he cannot simply wave his hand and change the world. He must work with and through the Senate and House of Reps who seem to be making life as difficult for him as possible. The only thing holding up the closure of Gitmo is the non co-operation of these other politicians who, since they are also there by the will of the people, he cannot just ignore.

I say good on him for trying to make a difference. It's easy to sit at home and shoot him down, but at least he is making an effort to undo the damage done by the previous US administration. In the real world this does take time.

Also, Barrack Obama did not make the laws under which Gary McKinnon was arrested. Nor can he repeal them without the approval of the Senate.

Let's try and keep it real folks.
Pete Clarke Yup.

He's full of shit - just like the rest of them.
JK2006 Tell that to Iraq and Afghanistan, Barack!

"We want a free internet..."

Tell that to Gary McKinnon Barack.

He's starting to sound like a politician.
