Not being a viewer of Top Gear my main experience of Richard Hammond has been the Morrisons adverts. If not for his accident I wouldn't know who he was.
The Fat Controller
I prefer James May over Hammond too. May's series with OZ Clarke where they travel the country boozing was hilarious.

I rather like him and his enthusiasm; he's like a puppy. But whilst I thought this series was going to be brilliant it's rather disappointed me.

One awaits the patronising answer: 'He's on a lot because programme makers and advertisers think he's very popular with certain demographics'. Duh, none of us knew it. But, yes, I find him not just irritating but a bit odd since he recovered from his accident - he used to look as well as sound like a local disc jockey made good, which I guess is what he is, but now he seems to think he needs to look as though he's in a boy band, which at his age is just naff.

Think it was all to do with money. I believe they were paid less than Clarkson as this article shows.A couple of the James May shows have been interesting but i avoid the Hammond ones like the plague.
