Innocent Accused Another example of New Labour criminalizing men who for whatever reason cannot get sex the normal way.
Not nice of course, prostitution is sordid, but perhaps the police should get off their asses,& find the traffickers, not sit back & persecute desperate men?
Jim And in news just in, a new government proposal to help victims of crime with therapy is causing controversy. Why would victims need therapy to teach them not to hand over the handbags, asks Leanne Rose, chair of the victims league. Home Office spokersperson Joe Rag defends the Help Them Stop Being Victims Bill 2045, however, saying, "victims of crime often become inured into the ways of victimhood and need help avoiding it." And in a vox pop, later in the show, we will reveal how one victim became adicted to being repeatedly cracked on the skull with a heavy cast iron skillet.

Stay tuned...

Blackit If a women has been truly forced into prostitution, i.e. trafficked and threats of violence have been made against her or her family, then I hardly see the reason why such a person would need to attend classes to escape from her situation. Particularly if the brothel would have been closed down and its owners arrested.

Seems particularly evil to criminlize such a victim for the 'offence of soliciting'.

My point is, that it seems pretty clear in the article that these classes are for prostitutes who refuse to accept the forced label of co-erced victim.

The psychopaths who make these laws (ex: Jacqui Smith) truly believe the absurd notion that 'no woman would sell her body voluntarily'.

Errrr...just pop down to your local on a Friday night and you'll see half the females there doing exactly that.

Can't remember if it's already been posted here but these same nutjobs are claiming that 40,000 women and girls will be trafficked into south africa for the word cup this summer. Strange, because for the 2006 world cup in Germany EXACTLY the same figures were quoted - 40,000 women would be sexually trafficked. In fact, the German police spent millions trying to rescue all of these women and found precisely FIVE (allegedly) trafficked prostitutes.

If you lobbied to introduce laws targetting any minority upon the basis of such lies and obvious deceit then you would be rightly locked up. Yet male sexuality is fair game these day. Lobby groups just need to click their fingers and millions of men become potentially criminilized.

Eh? I mean why would women forced into prostitution be required to attend forced therapy to help them LEAVE prostitution???

Not sure I get your point, Blackit. Surely the reason they need therapy is to help them escape the world they have been forced into, a world presumably they are afraid to leave.
veritas I had a job once putting up a bunch of working girl's cards in phone booths and newsagents around Bayswater.

If I had to attend a meeting about leaving prostituion maybe I would meet some new customers.
