Denise I saw a similar red light moving low in the night sky. I was told it was probably a chinese lantern but it slowed down, stopped for a moment and then sped away into the distance. If it was a lantern it must have been radio controlled. Mine made no noise either.

This was the middle of last year.
Al Someone called me to look outside last night and I went out in time to see three bright red balls of light crossing above a field behind my house, settling into a V formation, then disappearing upwards at great speed. The night was quiet and there was no sound coming from the lights. This is the second time in 2 years that we've seen such lights, but these were closer than the previous encounter.

Nothing in the local news although several other people did see them. I keep an open mind on these matters. It's possibly significant that I live 5 miles from an active airbase which must surely have detected any flying objects which were not authorised to be in British airspace. No aircraft were scrambled to investigate.

What are these strange lights?
