Topic History of: I bet every other team would PAY to play England !!!!

Al Ecuador didn't seem to want it badly enough. They started well but, when they really needed a goal they hung back instead of putting England under pressure. Meanwhile, England had to rely on the luck of a free kick - well taken by Beckham but always a shot to nothing. It was a scrappy, disjointed performance by both sides. If it was a talent contest, they would both have failed the auditions.

So far, England have had an easy run. What we need is a victory to be proud of, against a team who test England to the limits and make them work for a result.

Portugal or Holland next.
In The Know Everyone - have you read the Beeb message boards? - thought it was a hopeless performance.
JK2006 Not bad played but nowhere near the standard of either Argentina or Mexico.
I found it interesting - the commentator in the game last night said Mexico had played the most international games pre World Cup - 25.
And England the fewest.
9!
That's my worry... they don't look like a team.
But I hope for the best.
In The Know Best comments on the BBC website -

FULL-TIME: It wasn't the best of matches, in fact it was one of the worst at this World Cup

63 mins: David Beckham looks as if he has been sick on the pitch. Hardly international football. Looks more like Big Dave down on Hackney Marshes after a heavy Saturday night.

PLAYER RATER: The best England player on show? Ashley Cole according to you. Not surprisingly you rank him the 12th best player on the pitch !!

"England supporters jeer off their team as the half-time whistle blows, and rightly so. England have posed little threat in attack and have looked uncertain at the back, John Terry in particular having an uncomfortable first 45 minutes. Sven-Goran Eriksson needs to do some fast talking otherwise he faces the prospect of his reign as coach ending at the hands of Ecuador."
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport in Stuttgart

45 + 2 mins: Sven-Goran Eriksson has a face like thunder on the bench. He is almost as red as his perma-tanned Ecuador rival, Luis Fernando Suarez

C'mon now, time to take those silly flags down before you die of embarrassment !
