How ?

Surely making people feel comfortable will make them want to return ?

If you were jailed and treated well and helped to change your life you would be more likely NOT to re-offend. In addition you would not have a grudge against society.

The main aim of being jailed is to remove your freedom. Not to torture you in any way. Therefore we should have good conditions.

Overcrowded prisons mean that ( as we saw in Wormwood Scrubs ) loads of problems that mean that those prisoners dont get any attention. Not only that they have to wait for every decision - that young lad had been waiting for ages for a reply - the guy who was accused of drug smuggling also had to wait for a hearing for a long time. This is not the way to treat people who the courts believe need to be rehabilitated.

We should treat all people with respect and love whether they are murderers or rich or poor.

Angel I recall a chap on the Wormwood Scrubs programme that said he'd put on 4 stone since being detained. He'd never had it so good or words to that effect were used. I agree with your generalisation BR but I think all jails differ in certain respects.

After watching the ITV series WORMWOOD SCrUBS it is interesting to compare the pictures of the cell that CHARLIE SHEEN may go to in the USA in this article .....

Is it me - or does the cell in the USA look better with much better sanitation and decor ? and is a single cell rather than a bunk bed as shown in Wormwood Scrubs ?

Does this mean UK jails are generally worse than foreign prisons in terms of facilities - the BBC were carrting articles about the poor standard of healthcare in UK prisons yesterday for instance.......

Perhaps we JAIL TOO MANY people - and if we jailed less people we could improve the standards of both health and hygeine - and this alone would cut down on re-offending. If you treat people like rubbish - they will believe they are rubbish.
