As ITK clearly watches my Dickens posts (and hopefully so do some of the rest of you) - Update Two; about three quarters through, absolutely adoring it but deeply impressed that genius Russell T Davies is clearly a Dickens fan too as his Dr Who/Dickens episode has delightful and accurate banter about the decidedly dodgy American scenes in it!
Quote from Wikipedia...
In the Doctor Who episode "The Unquiet Dead", after expressing his admiration for Dickens other works, The Doctor criticizes the work saying, "Mind you, for God's sake, the American bit in Martin Chuzzlewit, what's that about? Was that just padding? Or what? I mean, it's rubbish, that bit."

Loving it so much; the beauty of Dickens (well, one of many) is that his novels are like banquets - long, delicious, many courses...
You have to spend time slowly and with great delight over every single mouthful.
Martin and Mark Tapley are stuck in deepest, darkest America with no hope of survival.
Mrs Gamp is expanding and developing.
The vile Jonas has married Merry Mercy (brain dead).
Pecksniff goes from strength to strength.
