First of all it is fantastic news that Polanski is free. No civilised country in the world should ever even consider sending a European citizen to a justice system as corrupt as Americas. A country where judges recieve backhanders from private companys for jailing 13 year old kids. A prison system in which male inmates are routinely raped. A country in which sex offenders can be held indefinately AFTER they have served their sentance.
A truly backward country in which teenagers are jailed as sex offenders for uploading pictures of themselves naked.
Actually, it's very disturbing that Japan is being forced down the road of America. They've recieved incredible pressure recently from the American government and 'child protection' groups to copy our draconian laws on teenage porn and teenage sex. So now it appears they've gone from having schoolgirl worn panty vending machines at train stations to arresting 18 year old adults for what amounts to 'self abuse' - all in the space of a decade or so.
It will be interesting to see how much Japan's teen pregnancy rates, youth crime, teen obesity rates etc slowly increase to civilised Anglo-Saxon levels over the next few years. Thanks America.
Meanwhile the Japanese prime minster was under pressure to resign because he couldn't force the US army (seen in Japan as rapists of 12 year old girls) to quit Okinawa. |

despite my unique ability to be correct 100% of the time -I got this slightly wrong. It wasn't the USA where teens have been arrested in the 100's for texting pics of themselves..it was Japan where a girl was selling pics on-line.
Japan seems to have very odd laws. But it still raise the question ; is she the perpetuator of the crime and the victim as well? (I don't know the answer-this time)

ps: Polanski's full quote was they "wanted to serve him up on a platter to the media". I've had arguments with friends who are anti or pro Polanski but I find the legal angle the most fascinating. |
