In the actual article it says that he was never asked at the time about previous convictions so your statement is a little irrelevant.

The really sad thing is that this man is 62 and out of work (so will probably never get a job again).

Instead of just sitting at home and watching Jeremy Kyle, he actually puts something back into his community by doing voluntary work !

This is precisely what the government is trying to encourage !
veritas an example of the sheer utter madness of today....

"An EMAS spokesman said: "Patient safety is our priority and this is the reason we ended Mr Leadbeater's membership of our voluntary car driver scheme. We understand his disappointment but are satisfied the action taken is appropriate."

..and how on Earth would a patient's safety be in jeopardy because a man fiddled his electric meter 38 years ago ?

He should have become a politician-invaded Iraq and helped blow to pieces thousands of innocents.

He'd get an award or that.

Burglary is a no no. But fiddling with gas meter hasn't everyone done that, my late Granddad was a delivery driver for a charity and he was fiddling with his meters trying to make ends meet he even took TV sets home so my old man and his 6 siblings had something to watch.

I came to an end when the landlord evicted them for fiddling the meters and go there own ways but still in contact.

I think that's an outrageous statement ! Everyone ?.

Many years ago my gas meter inadvertently had a small hole develop in the top and somehow a long pin fell in and stopped the little wheel going around.

The electric bills went down two thirds.

That mishap was corrected when they replaced plastic meters with metal ones

When a person has done their time that should be the end. Absolutely. It should be illegal to prevent a person working because of what they did in the past when they have been punished or done their time.

The Oz Labor government was to introduce a privacy law that would have prevented the media from mentioning past convictions once they had been spent. You can imagine the state the Murdoch media got into over that prospect.

Needless to say the policy has now been abandoned.
