veritas you are right Innocent A.

I worked in one ME country for 6 months and it was drummed into me beforehand to not put a foot wrong as the law can be intransigent.

Apart from that found Arabs to extremely warm, friendly people.
BR Thanks for that explanation IA - makes more sense now - but is still pretty crazy !!
Innocent Accused I've been there a few times in the last two months, and had dealings (friendly) with the Sharjah police....indeed be wary, justice can be quick and painful.
Remember though the guy took liberties, against the contract with his bank.Over here he'd have got a slapped wrist, there they take honoring a contract seriously.
This was a result of Islamic UAE law,not the bank.Emirates bank is run on Islamic principals, and this is Islamic justice.

It's the guys' own fault,he worked there, and knew the rules before he broke his contract.Still a nasty way to be reminded.
veritas what a totally bizarre story !

as I said before, my father was a banker his entire life and concluded they were dreadful institutions.

Final proof that BANKS really are inhuman masters and gangsters.

But also shows that other people will rally round to someone in distress.

Our world and most people are wonderful. It is those in "power" who are corrupt and uncaring who have created the wars and the famines and problems the human race faces.

It is time surely to overthrow those in power and restore power to the people ? Then we can really create what God wished for us - an Eden here on Earth. It wont be perfect because we are not perfect - but at least it could run on the principle of loving each other - and ripping off people would be made illegal.

Idealistic maybe - but surely better than the nasty place that we have created where people will soon be handing over 50% of their wages in taxes to pay for the bankers mansions.
