Hope it really blesses you being there. Let us know what it was actually like to be present please when you get a chance. On SKY HD it is truly awe inspiring stuff.

After an early start we arrived pre-dawn (everyone had to be in place by 7.00am ! - security checks etc) and it was initially "weird" being "in a field" in the early morning in the dark. Very light rain (which didn't seem to bother anyone and made it feel even more eirie).

There was an air of relaxed anticipation - that we were about to witness a once in a lifetime event. (No one has ever been beatified in Britain before, and this Pope had never performed the ceremony previously).

It was a truly beautiful event ... so calm and peaceful. I'm not making any spiritual claims, as I've said before, there is "something tangible" about being in a very large group of people all with common purpose. I suppose football matches are the same in a kind of way (except there are two opposing "groups" which tends to make it more confrontational than calming). Perhaps festivals might be a better example.

I've read alot recently about Newman .... this man who once called the Pope an anti-Christ, and even after converting to Catholicism still challenged Papal authority by insisting that personal conscience over-ruled any other doctrine. This makes great sense to me personally. It's know that Pope Benedict has been a follower of Newman for many years too.

People were sharing food, drinks and even clothing ... a really Christian spirit.

The Pope is right ... if Christian principles were more at the heart of normal life (even if you are not a Christian) that can only be a good thing, surely ?

A wonderful day .... I'm very glad that I went, esp as I may never get the chance again.

I loved the Widdecombe/Newman programme - fascinating.

But I don't know about you JK - I didn't feel any wiser about the topic at the end! I don't 'get' sainthood! Maybe I was too distracted by Widdy's voice - she always sounds like she's about to yodel. The Vatican programme after was fascinating.

This POPE has been totally misrepresented by the UK Media
Fair Do's since the Catholic Church has been misrepresenting the bible since it's inception.
Trinity (pagan teaching)
Christmas (pagan teaching)
transubstantiation (false teaching)
Papal infallibility (unbiblical)
infant baptism (unbiblical)
Forced clerical Celibacy (unbiblical)

I could go on...

Very reasonable doctrinal points you make.

But our media do not represent the views of ordinary people is what I was suggesting - not trying to give any theological bashing to the media.

I actually agree with your points by the way - but in terms of stealing pagan sites and festival dates it goes back to Pope Gregory who actually suggested it would be easier for people to accept Christianity if these things happened - which does make sense.
