Topic History of: Firefighters to strike ..... on Bonfire Night !!

SJB I'm not privy to the content if the firefighters' contracts but on the whole, I'd prefer to err on the side of generosity when dealing with pay and conditions for the actual firefighting teams. There are probably better targets for cuts higher up in the service or indeed in other areas of public spending.

I am sure you mean 'accepted' - but the contracts do allow for alterations to the working hours.
robbiex The firefighters have every right to strike, their working hours have altered dramatically and they are expected to accept it without a fight. When they excepted the job it was based on the hours on the contract, therefore these new hours are a breach of contract.

Will it be such a hard ship if their aren't any bonfire displays, it will give the rest of us a bit of peace for a change, as bonfire night seems to go on for about 3 weeks.

are you still allowed to have bonfires ???

Only if you put a politician on top, veritas !

All firework displays should be cancelled and all parents should tell their children that their pleasure has been cancelled due to the selfish bastards in the Fire Service !

Not at all. Parents (and those in charge of bonfires/firework displays) should ensure that safety factors are covered, and not leave it to the firefighters/tax payers to sort things out - as usual.
