Well done, JK - but not everyone is so fortunate.
Veritas is partly right - a little bit of (managed) debt is not a bad thing (esp if it is for something sensible, like in vestment, in your future, your career or your home).
The problem has been that people did think money grew on tress and started spending like their was no tomorrow.
I always try and pay with cash - there is a definate "giving money away" feeling when you actually hand over cash that is not so apparent when you simply sign a credit card slip !
I believe money lenders and banks are there to be stolen from.
When I was young and asked my father-a banker-if I should go into the business he said.."of course not , dreadful and immoral institutions" |

My bank managers (yes; I have two) called me in some time ago and told me I was their best customer. I gasped and replied "no wonder the banks are in trouble". They laughed and said - not wealthiest but best; in 45 years I have never had an overdraft.
I'm afraid it has never made sense to me to spend money I do not have. |

First time now since 1993, when I started university, that I am out of debt - not even an overdraft.
All down to saving, a bit of eBay to get rid of some clutter I have collected over the years and budgeting.
If I want something now, I save for it. |
