Locked Out Angel, I know your point is made tongue in cheek but...
I know several Romans who speak English so well that they are accentless. I also know Romans who speak English with a very hefty Roman accent. Similarly you will find in this country hugely variable dialects and accents which might well lead a non native English speaker to believe that they are in fact listening to a mishmash of languages.
This charge is always leveled at any program set in another country where a "foreign" language is rendered using standard English {see imdb's "Rome" board for instance].
I haven't yet seen this series {it's all being saved up on my PVR for one evening's orgiastic viewing}, but look forward to what sounds like a terrific series. If nothing else it'll tide me over til April when I'm next in Rome, even if it is just for one day!

I quite agree. I don't mind them not trying dodgy accents, but my Italian friends complain that the characters don't even 'act' like Italians, which seems perverse seeing as the drama is inspired by a very Italian fiction series. Why not set it somewhere in England (or Scotland, seeing as it's a BBC Scotland quota job) if the Italian aspect bothers the programme makers so much? Maybe RAI should remake Taggart in Calabria!

SJB I enjoyed this too. Stylish photography, cool music and nice writing with a sprinkling of humour. Good performances from the actors too.

It's nice to see a real detective character instead of yet another tough, commitmentphobic, I Work Alone, action man who uses un-pc methods but always gets results.
JK2006 Tipped off by a friend who watched last week (I made the mistake of Marple and went to sleep half way through) - I saw it this week and thought it was excellent.
