If we don't stop Gaddafi then all dictators will see that the best way to deal with protests is to kill your own people - and as the precedent will have been set, who could blame them?
This is NOT Iraq - where there was large opposition (in fact the majority view?) - there is NO opposition to this liberation - every political party is in favour, there has been (largely) no dissent at all.
The Libyan people called for help, the Arab League called for help - we are responding by getting rid of a lunatic dictator, who kills his own people if they offer any dissent.
I see that Qatar is taking part in the raids, and will help patrol the no-fly zone (according to their foreign minister Sheikh Hamad) and I expect that the UAE will be confirmed soon.
This is NOT the one-man-and-his-dog "coalition" that invaded Iraq.
This is a REAL Coalition, authorised by the UN.

Ghaddafi was welcomed with open arms by Blair (who would have had full support of the Tories) and Britain sold him the weapons being used against the 'rebels'.
This is the old Saddam / Iraq situation speeded up.
JK is right- the no-fly zone is a good idea but who are we to decide which Lybians will be allowed to live or die-just as we did with Iraqis ?
And what about the dreadful Saudi regime where we send the Royal family to butter up so they will spend billions ? |
