There is indeed irony intended BB but it's essentially aimed at two regular contributors whose diverging views can be summed up in a few words and neither they nor we need hear or express them again!

When I read this post I couldn't help but consider the irony. Only someone with the mentality of a dictator could post an opinion on their on discussion forum and state that there should not be any discussion of the views expressed. You've got a section "Attitudes and Opinions" for this sort of post why not use it.
I apologise if I've misunderstood the situation and I'm sure you'll have an explanation/justification.

It seems that some people hate the regime and want it over thrown. Fair enough. I think, if I lived there, I'd probably want that myself though I'd certainly only protest if I had a viable alternative. Or I'd move out and live elsewhere.
I would not personally fight against it. I'm not a fan of killing people if it can be avoided.
But the question I have is - as a citizen of another, unconnected country, would I want my government to support one side against the other?
No. Just as I think Libya should not have supported the IRA, so I don't think my tax monies should be used to kill Libyans.
In extreme circumstances (Hitler) I might approve of my country acting intelligently to stop genocide.
Rwanda? Hutus vs Tutsis? Yes; a civilised country should see that coming elsewhere and use every effort to stop it happening.
Diplomacy first; then threats; then limited, intelligent action.
But Libya is not in that situation. It never was.
It does, of course, have oil - vitally important - especially to British Petroleum and French Total.
But I don't want my taxes used to kill people in order to boost Petrol executives bonuses.
And if my elected leaders do that, I want them thrown out. Not killed; that's cruel; but quite possibly locked up - in the cell next to Blair.
No comments, please. I just wanted to express my personal view.
