Only ever read and watched The Spy Who Came in From the Cold (when I was 15) and was expecting a difficult to understand plot. Objectively I really enjoyed watching a cold war thriller with good acting and no reliance on CGI. About time I tried another Le Carre novel.....

Interesting hugely positive Peter Bradshaw review in the Guardian and not so enthusiastic Cosmo Landesman in the Sunday Times - added thoughts - Colin Firth is dreadful... Mark Strong and Toby Jones are good...

Spoiler alert - extra thoughts...
They made too little of both Connie Sachs and Roy Bland - minor but crucial characters; and Toby Esterhase wasn't good.
The Booker Chairman this year asked her judges to pick novels we'd enjoy and not just admire. The film makes me think rather of that.
