david I listened to part of his speech (while I was in the bath, but that's neither here nor there!) and thought a muddled mess of contradictions, and supremely arrogant too.

Paul Dacre's speech to the Leveson enquiry is correct on some things but full of hypocisy.

On one hand he is scathing about the concept of 'regulation' but then announces a Page 2 corrections column. As if that would have come about without the hacking scandal.

He also makes some weird claims..that "The nation didn’t go to war. Yet the response has been a judicial inquiry with greater powers than those possessed by the public inquiries into the Iraq war"

I'd would say the nation did go to war with the co-operation of Blair's ghastly Nu Labour party , the BBC and News Corp's .

The hacking scandal is just a symptom of a corrupting relationship between politicians and the media.

note how he attacks non-profit making newspapers for exposing the scandal which really sums up the value of rags like the Mail.
