Mike Read's Hairdresser to write all those turgid, soporific novels - at least, that's what the following article claims. It was written by one of those people who is the scourge of the academic world: a professional dissertation writer. I wonder if this phenomenon is fairly recent, or if it has been going on behind the scenes for decades? Whatever the case, this guy claims to make $66,000 a year for his efforts, never having to visit a library, but instead relying entirely on online material, the majority of which is obtained from free samples on Amazon and gleaned from book reviewers' comments. What a dastard!

Over to you, Mr Kenneth George King MA (Cantab).
