Iraq only started to go really bad for the locals after Saddam left,
... entirely due to a lack of planning (for the future) by the invading armies.
Libya is alive with militias, and no real central government control....
... and what would you expect from a peoples who have just won a civil war?
Did you expect them to disarm overnight? Was someone supposed to "collect" the guns the next day. What an absurd statement.
Its relatively soon since the overthrow - and with no experience of democracy - things are bound to take some time to settle (as I said at the time !)
If Assad goes Lebanon will fall back into civil war,it was his government who stopped the last one,and who have helped keep it down....no such thing as a free lunch
Stopped the last one? Didnt Syria occupy most of Lebanon in 1976, whereas the civil war went on till 1990?
Wasn't it the assassination Harari that forced Syria OUT of Lebanon?
Simplistic answers - by outsiders - will do nothing to settle matters.
THE PEOPLE HAVE DECIDED THAT ASSAD MUST GO |

Like anything could be worse than being murdered by your own "government"???
Assad WILL go ... just as Gaddafi went. End of.
Even if Assad goes it certainly won't be 'End of.'
Iraq only started to go really bad for the locals after Saddam left,Libya is alive with militias, and no real central government control....and believe someone who has actually visited these places, the rebels are just as able to murder as are the ruthless dictators they're trying to replace.

Getting closer !
Time to pack the bags (full of money) Assad and flee the country.
Today David Cameron will appeal to the UN to back the Arab Spring ... too little too late.
Let's hope that WHEN the Free Syrian Army seize full contro of the country we are not punished for having propped-up / put-up-with a terror regime (as we were when we propped-up The Shah in Iran).
If Assad falls it will be the people of Syria who suffer the most.Like in Iraq the varying tribes/religions will fight amongst themselves. There will be no peace keepers, they have no oil after all. |
