JK2006 No1 reason Rippon should have allowed the Newsnight segment to air... IT WAS A GREAT STORY.

That is the key motivation for all media, not just TV.

No2 reason... ALWAYS BELIEVE ACCUSERS - whether or not they are lying. Why? Because it's a great story.

Now for the BAD reasons that might have influenced him...

It might not have been true. Media do not allow this to concern them. It's a moral problem and human beings should not be moral unless they want to be fired.

It might harm Savile's reputation and cause damage to charities, hospitals - even the BBC - all of whom sometimes try to do good things. Who cares? Savile's dead and besides - it's a great story.

It might end up getting me fired and losing my job. Nobody should ever allow such selfish motives to rule decisions.

Almost inevitably Rippon (related to Angela) will be fired. For doing something he thought was honourable and decent. Poor fool. We're in the real world over here.
Ophelia Balls Well, you can. Surely you've got lots of important friends.
Hedda is anyone ever going to ask "what the f*ck difference would this show have made after JS was dead"?
JK2006 He cannot ever say the real (I suspect) reason for dropping the segment.

"I didn't believe the accusers".

This has now become a statement that is not allowed to be spoken (except as a quote - like above - of course).
