No, their demise was caused by the availabilty of cheaper movies elsewhere - from Sky Movies, Love, Netflix, Graboid etc. As well as black-market editions and the free streaming and torrent sites.
No, you were not right.
Blockbuster did not fail because renters couldn't afford petrol!
