HOW would anything be achieved if not via overthrowing a violent repressive regime?

In The Observer - fascinating interview with the man who tore down Saddam's statue saying "it's far worse now". Then, a few pages later, "Egypt is anarchy now"...
I wonder if Libyans are celebrating a far better life in Tripoli?
I know (read Three Months) all is not well in Tunisia.
Syria? Misery misery - and it's going to get worse, however the conflict is resolved.
At best it looks like Life for Arabs will be like Life for Persians in Iran. (Especially if you're not satisfactorily gender orientated). We have (and continue to) encouraged this.
Well, I didn't. I felt reform was urgently needed but not by violence and force.
ITK and others admire and encourage our tax monies to be used to kill innocent women and children (excusing our murders by talk of democracy).
Why? Well, we all know the newer.
It's a better story!
Rebelling against the establishment; fighting for freedom; giving everyone the vote; freeing critics of dictators... great stories.
