How could they possibly tell? Unless every problem is always the result of abuse.
The assumption is insulting to the vast majority of victims who overcome a horrific experience and go on to lead normal and well adjusted lives.
People can suffer those things for many reasons other than sexual abuse.
There are people who have never been sexually abused in their life who have those problems too. They can be for a wealth of reasons...
Or for no reason at all, yet these conditions are used as evidence of abuse.
I'd say there is usually something very negative that has gone on in someones life to cause "sever depression" and "crippling emotional difficulties" - but in many cases "sexual abuse" isn't the cause of them.
But i've met many an alcoholic and drug addict that are like that - simply because thats what they want to do and "emotional difficulties" and "severe depression", don't really come into it at all... 
There are mental illnesses which you can be genetically predisposed to acquiring,and it just "happens" or it can be triggered by an event (often trivial) that might have no effect on someone else.
Abuse very often has devastating consequences but i dont think it is always possible to pinpoint the event to blame, and to use mental difficulties as evidence that abuse has taken place is ridiculous.
Yes, I suppose some people will be more predisposed to depression and emotional difficulties than others and I would take less for them to trigger it than for some others.
There can be a whole host of factors, which will not all be the same for each individual... |
