OK, if nobody ever lies about stuff (note today some dreadful woman who falsely accused a taxi driver of attacking her - fortunately he kept a recording)... but people do (in droves - and exaggerate like crazy).

Why can't Chief Inspector Plod say "you will be believed unless of course you are lying in order to make money in compensation, media fees, or get sympathy or revenge, or because you're mad, in which case you'll be prosecuted and sent to prison for ages"?

Best Wishes, Jim Having looked into the court process, I think when they say "you will be believed" it means just that. It seems that you can easily get a conviction with no evidence other than the accuser's word. I think it is quite unusual to detect false accusations and it seems that most are exposed by accident or when the liar confesses.

hedda	they didn't believe me when I rang them and said burglars had broken into a business I was involved in. Now my lawyer says we can sue and get compo (only takes about 6 years) should have said I'd been raped.
