andrew I've heard and read numerous articles, that Lou really was hit and miss live, mainly a miss. The Velvet Underground demo's and bootlegs do sound much better than the actual albums.

Never got The Raven I have listened to it 12 times maybe I'm missing something from it.
DJones When I saw him for the first time (April or May 1977), the concert was ok, but not great.

But what an encore: 45 minutes of one chord! Unbelievable.


And the second time (June 1979) he was so bad that American GIs threw chairs onto the stage and started a riot. Reed was arrested and had to spend a night in jail.
