Actually, the "establishment" backed the pirates in the 60s. The big brands wanted a commercial broadcasting system, a consumer society like across the one across the pond.

I guess that marks the full circle then as now we're practically back to where we were before them, I.e. Media being controlled by the establishment (or large corporations in our case) who are not prepared to take any risks.

50 years ago today! And, for me, the crucial aspect of British history that helped my career and that of hundreds of others take over the global music marketplace.
I was always closer to Big L, Wonderful Radio London… but loved the pirates. They changed our lives as much as Top of the Pops did.
