In some African countries, singers can be persuaded to write songs about prominent businessmen and politicians. As the authors right situation and levels of piracy make living off the actual music difficult, it's not such a bad idea. No one said it had to be their best song, or that they have to sing it at every concert.
At other times, nobles patronised the arts by requesting portraits. So... whatever goes.

I think this differs because it's already written, recorded and you're buying individual lines rather than the entire song(s). I don't recall other attempts having interest from big business either.
In The Know (sometimes)
This is not new .... someone was trying to raise finance a while ago by "selling" royalty shares in his yet-to-be-recorded album.
I doubt if anyone actually earnt a penny (and also doubt that the album ever saw the light of day).
Anyone know what happened?

All the best to him. Good marketing idea. Getting publicity.
Seems very long. Isn't that bad for radio play and all that?
Apart from that. Easy to listen to, rather enjoyed it. Slightly strange voice but I'm left with the impression I enjoyed it.
Could do well in the seious pop market. Doing well there could be doing very well indeed. I'd back him.
There have been lesser hits at Number 1.

Great idea, he's already got a few "names" involved. Most of these great marketing ideas seem to be backed by forgettable songs/bands. This isn't the most original song, not really for me, but quite pleasant.
