To me, the simplicity of "Saw her yesterday-ee-ay" rhymed with "Told me what to say-ee-ay" is every bit as clever as "For a pocket full of mumbles such are promises" and I love them both.

That's a part of it ITK but Paul Simon's best verse in Bridge was forced onto him by Artie and the engineer in the studio!

Could that possibly be because years ago people entered a studio with a finished song - and then recorded it.
Whereas now, they "construct" songs in the studio?
