Grandpa Harley A man who brought a lot of niche music out to the masses. Without him, I'd have never 'met' Eva Cassidy, Shawn Mullins or Beth Nielsen-Chapman (who I did meet, in Cardiff... I think I'm still infatuated... *sigh*)

I can't say I knew him, but he always replied to e-mails in a charming and informative way. Most of my mails weren't suitable for reading out(usually rude puns), although I usually got a mention for my 'I spend many hour next to my radio, waiting to be offended, and you chaps never let me down! Keep up the good work!' sign off...

The mornings have lost their shine with his passing...
Al I wonder if he was one of the chaps I failed to get through to, several years ago. Princess Sarah was being interviewed on the Wogan show (BBC1). At the time she only had one child. During the show she referred to her children, with a twinkle in her eye. I was sitting watching it at home, shouting at the TV saying "Come on Terry, pick it up; she's dropped you a massive hint." Unfortunately he missed it, and I wasn't able to get through to any of the production team. Not sure that they'd have taken my word for it, but they could have run the tape back ...

A couple of days later the news was broken that Andrew and Sarah were expecting their second child. Wogan could have had the exclusive, if anyone at the BBC had been on the ball.

I didn't know Paul Walters, but I heard he had a good reputation and was well respected. Thoughts go to his family and friends.
JK2006 No relation; both great guys though.
zooloo Any relation to John Peel's collaborator John Walters? (Who died quite young too at 63)
JK2006 Lovely, lovely guy (one of the few from the BBC to call me with sympathetic feelings when I came out); he produced Wogan and of course I had a lot to do with him during my Eurovision years.

One of the best. One of the nicest.
