DJKZ	We are most definitely in the age of the long tail and with sales to collapse even further in the years to come it is time for all in the music industry particularly in the artists/management side of things to sit up and take notice. You cannot build your artists' career on record sales anymore and a new business model needs to emerge for artists. This model should revolve around the artist as an individual entity whereby you can plug in the following: Youtube (and it's successors) Myspace Itunes and all the rest PAs and gigs Merchandise Sold directly from Ebay Retail merchandise Publishing The major way the public will be consuming music is free to the consumer. So make the most of licensing material to the peddlers of freebie content. One has to applaud the majors for their sneaky Youtube deal even though it sucks for artists. It opens up one reality and that is the importance of a collective with clout and a big stick to beat up on those who dare to use our content for free without paying for it. Where is the equivalent of the PFA (Professional Footballers association) ? Who is looking after artists interests and ensuring all including record labels pay artists for their copyright. This is an exciting time which i have seen coming for a while and have come to terms with. Now i will predict that the free download/streaming on Youtube in its next incarnation when there are licenses in place that is enforceable and pays all creators and rights owners, will be more important than the OCC charts. The music industry needs to establish a standard and an easy rights management system for these type of sites. Welcome to the future of music guys. I want my mpFREE !
