On a less maudlin note... it's amazing how age of performer can add depth to a song.
Trent Reznor refers to 'Hurt' as a song that "isn't mine any more"... the Cash version took it from him..
From Wiki
"[...]In an interview with Alternative Press, Reznor admitted that when Rubin first asked if Cash could cover his song, he was "flattered" but worried that "the idea sounded a bit gimmicky." The power of Cash's cover didn't fully hit Reznor until he saw the video:
I pop the video in, and wow

THe nature of the group added a dimension to 'Fix you' that was wholly absent from the original.
Not an easy watch for me, since it put me in mind of my desperate attempts to find a 'cure' for my dad during his last illness... In the end all I could do was get them undertake to put the morphine up and sign off to withdraw feeding and on a DNR notice.

Both of those have the added poignantcy of Cash's cover of hurt.
I'd missed this (Being one of those odd non-telly owners) but those two clips are remarkable.
Cheers for the linky Kev.

a really warm hearted and positive documentary about the power of music.
Made me cry several times.
And wasn't the Coldplay song (Fix You) great?
