And Pru I see in the piece that this incident was brought to the Smith tribunal as evidence of the "rare" times that stars were not treated with respect by Top of the Pops producers. Bollocks. If I listed the amount of times that my friend Michael Hurll ripped into a star for bad behaviour, being late, not putting everything into a rehearsal; he was a tyrant - and would never have allowed any misbehaviour, sexual or otherwise.

The Tmes today ponders the identity of the 'petulant' star who refused to leave his dressing room at TOTP while a full orchestra was kept waiting. That was Elton, and the song was Philadephia Freedom. Hardly a secret!
Chris
His remaining TOTP appearances are mainly in shows with other 'banned' scapegoats - co-presented 4 shows in 1983 - one with Jimmy one with DLT, and featured in Christmas 1981, R1 15th Anniversary, Christmas 82 & the 1000th which again all feature faces Baron Hall of Birkenhead has ordered be wiped from life's map.
To all intents & purposes, Tony was taken off the TOTP roster at the end of 1978 after constant whinging about punk & new wave on the radio - final straw was a spat with Elvis Costello played out on screen. itstotp.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/radio-fool.html
