Isaac Hyte i know they weren't the first but didn't Bis have an unsigned hit and were first on top of the pops, sans deal....suga suga candy pop, if it squeals make it stop...or summin like that..shit band...nice tits though...
JK2006 Father Abraphart and the Smurps charted at 58 in 1978 on flexi disc alone.
Not only was it "unsigned", it was "unpressed".

After charting, to the fury of the chart compilers, it was signed up and released on traditional Magnet vinyl by Michael (Lord Checkpoint) Levy who always had an eye for a dodgy wheeze.
Curious Orange who is?

I'd imagine its something like a football record but couldnt be sure...but with these accusations flying around does anybody have a definate answer to which band was the first unsigned band to score a UK Top 40 hit in the singles chart
