'...according to Digital Spy's Amy Davidson, "'love yourself' means 'go f**k yourself' in this context.'

I agree; everyone understands what 'love yourself' really means, but using this phrase makes it playable on the radio. So I think it was probably always written as 'love yourself'. It's clever lyric writing.
JK2006 Sweet little Justin and romantic Ed may I suspect have used a totally different word when this was first written. Any proof?
