Yes like all journalism as it became more specialist it got less interesting and less imaginative.

I used to enjoy James Hamilton's weekly column in the much missed Record Mirror. In the 1970s I used to read all the weekly music papers. Record Mirror, NME, Melody Maker, Sounds, and Disc and Music Echo. There was some great music journalism in those days.

Brian just told the story of how the fantastic Moody Blues No1 hit was born - involving Denny Laine and mighty DJ James Hamilton, who turned me onto the Glen Miller sound that I translated with my Sound 9418 project (and had a top 50 hit with).
