Several calls about this including a top UK Warners executive wondering why we've not commented.
Well I'm afraid it's a rumour too far. Whether major labels merge or fold or get bought up or anything is of increasing irrelevance in today's music world.
For us shareholders, the profits would be nice but it's a tiny part of life.
The key question in 2007 is no longer "can the majors survive?" but "who will be the first to get the backing to start the NEXT major - a company which efficiently looks after all the new areas of finding, developing, exposing and selling music and letting talent grow in whichever direction they wish creatively and artistically?".
I'm increasingly convinced it will NOT be an existing corporation but a brand new, low overhead, intelligently run small organisation that future and existing stars can plug into, become a part of, rely on, believe in, love and care for.
