Snobby choices (thank you cable TV): France's "Taratata" set the standards for music on TV. Bands played in the round live with special sets and special guests, followed by in-depth interviews crossed with celebrity guests. Cost a fortune to make, needless to say, but went far beyond anything I have ever seen on any channel.
Except, that is for the Swiss channel that took over the concept afterwards. I can't remember the name of it, but I saw a memorable show with Bowie playing live, crossed with an interview of photographer Mick Rock in New York and a special appearance from the singer of Radiohead on some Bowie material. How classy can you get?

Old Grey Whistle Test for it's variety of live music.
Later With Jools Holland for same reason as above.
TOTP late 60s early 70s for it's atmosphere and presentation.
Supersonic because I remember this with some affection.
Lift Off and 45 for the same nostalgic reason. |

Not very politic to not mention "No Limits" - which was IRC a rather good show anyway. |

Hi KZ;
I found myself very addicted to "Bands Reunited" on MTV, largely because the old bands they tried to re-unite failed to do so.
It was quite nail-biting, not that I`m a fan of reality TV at all, but they actually picked out all bands that I liked.
Off the top of my head, Squeeze and Frankie Goes to Hollywood failed in the task. |
