Fopp, and the Fopp-owned Music Zone shops have all closed, and the staff have been sent on "unpaid leave". But it appears that Fopp have NOT gone into administration.
Is this because the Directors are still looking for a way to re-open? (Knowing that it is illegal for Directors to trade a business when it is insolvent, and, if they get the court to appoint administrators, they themselves lose control of the business?)
The staff have been sent home on unpaid leave. Is this, again, because the directors hope to resume business, and then get the staff back.
Anyone know? It is really odd that there is no word coming our from Fopp. I gather their PR agency has stopped acting for them too.
I'm not aware of this situation ever happening before in any type of retail business. Usually the business is given a chace of being sold, with adminstrators keeping the stores open until a buyer can be found, or it is deemed not viable.
But there are over 100 stores, still with stock in them, with no visible sign that they have closed down. Just the doors closed and the lights not on.
Anyone got more information? David Pryde, do you read this message board?
