Forget it ! Don't bother. PR is probably one of the biggest mistakes you will make. You will spend money on it and get absolutely nothing in return. Regardless of who you use. If you are not on a label with a budget with lots of ads with the right 'lodge' members you will get nothing but a few reviews here and there which you can generate yourself. If you are going to choose a PR firm, then decide an hourly rate, multiply it by 2 and then by 4. That's how much you should pay a month because they will not do anymore than you would do if you did it yourself and therefore don't deserve to be paid more than you.
Better advice would be to BYO PR (bring your own) and build up your word of mouth network which will be more valuable for you but hey I will save that for a seperate post. |

I`m going to ditto Brilleaux, work with people that rate you, not those that just rate your cheque book.
Try Absolute PR, very honest people, if they don`t like it, they`ll tell you.Not a bad track record at all either. |

This was actually my specialty when I was in PR and although things HAVE changed since then, the basics
haven't. Start by getting your local papers to write up the band and review the demo. Take THOSE reviews and get yourself more reviews when you go on the road.
Don't ignore University Newspapers. Of course you have
the luxury of creating a MySpace page now, and the use
of cheap digital camcorders so get yourself some extra coverage this way. And include the link to everyone you approach. In no time you will have a nice little press kit that will give you the ammunition to approach the big guys.
Haven't read the other responses so forgive me if I duplicated. |
