fred The Kenny Ev show is great! I would love to get more shows like this on my ipod. I know its a bit 'living in the past' but radio-wise the past was a better place imho.
I enjoyed the Smashy & Nicey show for similar reasons - the chart. There's been so much revisionism about the 60s and 70s that you'd think the chrts were only full of the Fabs, Led Zep, The stones etc etc when in fact there were loads of one-offs, two-offs and interesting acts who have been forgotten.
Oh, and for the record - I normally listen to Radio 2 but I just wish they didn't talk after EVERY SINGLE RECORD! Why not occasionally play two in a row or are they scared people will forget for a single second that they're listening to the BBC?
The Cat I didn't tune in to this anniversary. Just can't listen to Radio One these days. I still have the tape of the 21st anniversary which I still play to remind me of the good times. Stuart Henry, Johnny Walker, Fluff, DLT, John Peel, Jimmy Saville .... and co.

On that show they played the Radio One DJ's adaptation of "Turn Your Radio On" called "Tune To Radio One". Does anyone have a copy of that. They sent out balloons with tickets. Anyone finding the balloon could send the ticket to the BBC to receive a copy of the record.
JK2006 I had a major nostalgia fit listening to my dear old mate Kenny Everett on Radio 2.

I gather Johnny Beerling got a mention from Moyles and Blackburn on Radio 1.

Smashy and Nicey were a one tune joke on Pick of the Pops - I'd have preferred Fluff's original myself.

All in all - how much better was radio in THOSE days?

A clear answer to the question "why are ratings dropping?".

It's not very good anymore.
