Topic History of: Beautiful song. Max. showing the last 5 posts - (Last post first)

It was an enjoyable show. I think there was a bit more quality than in previous years too.
Serbia was the best song, but perhaps a classy ballad is not quite right for a kids event. I vastly preferred Armenia to Belarus. It was a shame they lost out by just one point after leading all the way.
So that's 3 times in a row the last act has won with the telephone lines open from the start of the contest. The odds against this happening at random are about 5000-1. I have no idea why this should be. Logic should determine that an advantage goes to the earlier songs with this format, yet the reverse is happening.
If the EBU decides to bring this in for the main contest, I shall be placing a substantial bet on the last in the draw as long as it is a half decent song. |

Yiorgus enjoyed the experience and took his low placing in good spirits. I had bad vibes as soon as saw that the style people had messed with his hair - a minor point, but young girls seem to have a thing about boys with fringes, and his had been 'styled' away. But yes, overall, an enjoyable show. Congrats to Belarus.
Interesting that 10 out of the 17 countries involved were fro the former Soviet block. Three more from western Europe would balance things for next year.
I also liked the "Make a Splash around the World" song. I think proceeds from that go to UNICEF too. |

I just got through watching the show on TVRi. My top four on the night would have been 1.Serbia 2.Bulgaria 3.Malta 4.Cyprus.
Lots of voters disagreed, although Serbia did well. Armenia led for most of the way Belarus were the last to vote, just having taken the lead by 8 points. They gave Armenia 7 points, so won by the smallest margin.
Belarus must be well placed strategically. Over the last three years they've had two wins and a second. Not bad going.
I loved the song which was written for all of the competitors to perform together. "We're the voices. We're the future. Make a splash around the world."
Also nice to see that proceeds from the telephone vote went to UNICEF.
During the interval I had a look at what I was missing on British TV. I caught a bit of the X-Factor with the bickering judges and contrived performances. I deduced that I had chosen the right show to watch. Well done Netherlands for an enjoyable JESC. |

I've taken advantage of being on strike today and watched all the performances.
Serbia certainly have the best song in terms of quality. I like Belgium and Sweden, but their singers, and indeed style, are at the upper end of the age range, which does not normally fare too well in this contest.
I love the Armenian song, a catchy modern song, interspersed with a strong ethnic feel. Could win, but it is historically very rare for any Eurovision event to be won from so early in the draw.
Bulgaria is a nice song. Very child like, but that is in the spirit of the contest obviously!
You can't rule Belarus out. I'm not keen, but if they are using the system of opening the telephone lines at the start of the contest, then that is where my money would go. The last song on won last years JESC, and the last dance on won the Eurovision Dance Contest this year. The only two occasions this style of voting has been used.
I'll stick my neck out and do a top 5 prediction. Serbia, Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, Bulgaria. Don't go rushing off to the bookies on my say so though. I've made thousands on the senior contest, but I'm a mere amateur at the junior equivalent, and I have only heard each song once.
Interestingly, the website reports most hits from UK and Spain, neither of which are participating. |

The more I hear the Cyprus song, the more I like it.
I'll have to try and watch the contest online as the motor in my satelite dish has frozen up. |
