Sir Starmer and The Granny Harmers plummetted like a stone down the charts on this weeks new chart released tonight (Friday 27th) going into new year, falling 45 places from No37 to No82.
Band Aid 40 crept into the top ten again at No9, but not beating the peak three weeks ago of eight.
Wham! Last Christmas held No1 for the third week, and now 10th week non consecutively at No1 since 2020. At this rate if it keeps up the popularity it's possible that within the next three or four years it could go from being the biggest seller never to make No1 to the chart topper with the most weeks if it can get past the 18 non consecutive weeks that I Believe by Frankie Laine did in 1953 just before the rock 'n' roll era blew in.
I'm also fascinated by the popularity of Bobby Helms at a new chart peak of No5, and Brenda Lee another high of No4.
....and next week they all evaporate into thin air as if Christmas never happened!

Band Aid 40, not even top ten this Christmas, recovered a couple of places back up to only No12.
I wonder how much the Ed Sheeran comments affected this. Geldof must be shocked at how poorly it has been received. You just know he arrogantly assumed he had another Christmas No1 in the bag.
I doubt there will be another, such as Band Aid 50. The nation is done with Band Aid.
Reading your comment Rich, reminds me of that bloke who says he has a joke; but it's same joke he tells over and over.

Well this was interesting. Has the Band Aid bubble finally burst?
Having only entered first week at No45, last week it leapt to No8, but this week Band Aid 40 has gone into reverse and fallen out the top ten to only No14.
Even Andy Williams has outdone it this week, he's No13 with It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas.
Proof if it were needed and as I thought, this was one Band Aid rehash too many.
But with supreme irony, the song that Band Aid kept off the top spot for five weeks at Christmas 1984/New Year 1985 has returned to the No1 spot this week again,

This became clear to me when Radio 2 did one of those polls recently and played the top thirty favourite Pet Shop Boys songs and much of the lower half sounded very forgettable actually, and all the top positions were in a narrow couple of year period out of a near 40 year existance.
Band Aid 40 went 45 to 8 this past week.
I disliked the 12-inch mixes and remixes they did. They were so forgettable and dragged, some of the remixes were just.
