From what I have seen of it. The performance looks pretty good to me. He only performed one song ("Wouldn't it be good"). I know that Simon Le Bon sang a duff note in Duran's performance in the USA. |

Looking forward to this documentary. Live Aid was and always will be the biggest and best concert ever staged. Nothing will ever compare to its scale and star power. Bowie, McCartney, Queen, U2, Brian Ferry, and the Who all on the same stage on the same day, not to mention all the contemporary acts like Spandau, Nik Kershaw, Paul Young, et al. The concert was such a mammoth organisational achievement, considering no one had mobile phones. To take over the entire day's broadcasting from the main BBC channel was astounding. The BBC assigned the Old Grey Whistle Test team to cover the concert. Mark Ellen and David Hepworth were not household names, but they were broadcast to 10s millions and carried out a great job.
People might argue about the sound quality, but that is not why people go to live outdoor events, it's more about the atmosphere and the experience. The sound quality was at least as good as this year's Glastonbury. Those that took part in the concert were aware of its enormity at the time, unlike many events, whose importance is not realized till years later.
People will say, all the money went to dictators and not to the poor, with very little evidence, and provide links to conspiracy theories. The Live Aid team did personally deliver much of the aid and didn't just hand over a cheque.
The concert will live long in the memory and will and could never be repeated |
