Just to further carry the "lack of contrition" point Walter.
It has always amazed me why society appears to value contrition so highly.
It is obviously so easy to fake and basically, who cares?
I suspect it comes from way back and the Catholic confession and absolution games. You know, say a dozen Hail Marys and you are forgiven for murdering your wife.
Find God, express remorse and you are accepted back into righteous society.
I have a very simple answer to this approach.
Fuck that. |

Look at it in a slightly different way. Homosexuals were being discriminated against - due to the differing ages of consent. Edwina Currie tried to lower the age to 16, but failed (House of Lords blocked it twice) and a compromise of 18 was accepted (even though this STILL lead to discrimination and the age was still different !).
The European Court then FORCED the UK government to bring its laws into line and equalise the age (at 16).
So, if the UK government was not acting lawfully (when prosecuting people because of their gender) and had to be forced to change the law(*) - how can any convictions under that illegal law be valid?
(*) If my memory is correct the Commons passed the new lower age but it was still rejected by the Lords - and eventually the government has to use the Parliament Act (which over-rides the Lords) to force the Bill through. |

Thank you for watching it all Walter. I tried to make it both entertaining and effective - I'm sorry if you feel I failed.
Your second point is accurate - I've never apologised because I truly do not believe I ever took advantage of anyone.
I was wrongly convicted and my appeal process continues so it would be dishonest to apologise for something I didn't do, just as Sally Clark was right not to apologise for killing her baby when she did not do so.
You say..."The facts of the case are simple. JK had unlawful sex with underage teenage boys. He was found guilty in the highest court in the land. He was sent to prison. At no stage has there been a scintilla of remorse or admission that he had crossed a line."
The homophobic age of consent laws AT THE TIME specified (not generally known) that if both parties were over 16 at the time and no complaint was made within 12 months, no crime was committed.
So the law was not broken.
As for crossing the line, I have often admitted I crossed the line at the time and so did many others. Society eventually admitted it was an absurd law and equalised the ages of consent just as women were eventually given the vote.
I thought I made that clear in the film. |

Having now seen most of this film, two things struck me. One , it is such a wasted opportunity. There are plenty of Aunt sallies to knock down in our fractious society and JK has the entrepreneural talent combined with a gift for turning a tune to write something geniunely thought provoking well entertaining.
Secondly, the absence of contrition in today's society is sadly all around us now. The facts of the case are simple. JK had unlawful sex with underage teenage boys. He was found guilty in the highest court in the land.He was sent to prison. At no stage has there been a scintilla of remorse or admission that he had crossed a line.
And no, US and others ,I do not consider myself homophobic and I shall not crawl back under any rock for fearing finding illiterate morons like yourself hiding there. |

Ah but US - I'm delighted that they do come and read and post - they will disagree on some things and agree on others but they contribute and comment and have the courage to express their opinions.
God bless them both and the many others who do post - and perhaps some of the thousands who visit, read and don't post might feel that they can comment without fear.
Only the brain dead or the malicious or those with hidden agendas get bumped off.
Genuine differences of opinion are healthy and appreciated.
I have to tell you, if I wasn't me I think I might very well loathe me! |
