Having started this thread (and given several stories to the nationals as a result) can I revert to the beginning?
I'm not a George fan though I do think he is a very under rated vocal talent. But I think this habit of judging a person's talent via other aspects of their character is bizarre - and I've always thought that, from Presidential candidates (and Presidents) being dismissed due to sexual peccadilloes to singers being judged by their off stage activities.
Have times changed? We really didn't care that Jerry Lee Lewis had an appetite for 13 year olds, as did Presley and others. Indeed, we admired great songs about young love. If the music was good, we bought it.
In these days of thought crime you cannot even write a novel with imaginary incidents without being fire bombed or arrested.

Goerge Michael is one of the very few artist in this industry to survive the ever changing music business. He is a unique and fascinating artist, his voice and talent has moved the world and, the world shat on him for having sex in a public place, we as a Britsh public stood by him and supported him through it as we should have. As a music fan and as a fan of his work, I find it disgusting, DISGUSTING, that he will not recieve his award becuase of what goes on in his life outside of music. Amy Winehouse was given awards and seen as a modern day Iconic figure becuase of doing the same thing.
I'm so passionate about it I feel like crying for him, we should be standing by him and giving him the confidance to get over what is moving him to behave the way he is.
He is as relevant to modern day music as John Lennon, but his one of those artist, who will not be truly appreciated until he is no longer with us.
To kick a man when his down is WRONG, he has not harmed anyone, he is only harming himself, he is an artist who we should all be proud of and he deserves to be awarded and appreciated for his work in music.

If it's a true story JK it's a great scoop for this site. If it was just a mickey take by you (as I suspect - after all the Outstanding Contribution winer always performs a set) even better that one of the tabloids nicked it and ran with it!
Even Cowell and his ego wouldn't have the chutzpah to even consider accepting this award. |
