maybe in the 1980s yes but Top of the pops stopped improving record sales after then.
david I was thinking the sameabout radio play- just checked the radio 2 playlist and Fairytale is nowhere to be seen- hmmm, that is the station where you'd expect to see it playlisted if anywhere.
JK2006 Interesting - Jade was only 27; clearly the impact on both - all - Eurovision hits was just after the huge rated show.

So did any radio play Fairytale? I suggest not, apart from immediate news reports. Yet listeners clearly want to hear it. Bet it gets almost no airplay now. I think this indicates two things...

1) Instant gratification rules

and

2) Radio is out of touch with its listeners.
david agree with what you say about cheap impulse buying JK but at the same time if Alexander had had a TOTP appearance after the win he'd have done even better.
giles2008 Alexander only went in at 10. Presume all of it from weekend sales. The chart company have not yet updated the top 100.Fairytale at 2 in Finland (Urban Synphony at 10) and Yohanna at 4.
