The tipsheet is important, and what you provide is important. Martin made some good comments. I also think a print edition is probably not neccesary. The idea of linking to radio or tv is fantastic, but how?
I am one that would pay for the tipsheet, however would a subscription shrink the club?, and defeat what you're trying to do in the first place. This is a good question, also the need to keep certain contact numbers and such private is also a concern. Martin touched on that.
This is an extremely valuable and valid resource for all of us. I would like to see it be technically easier on the eyes, and to get around on. Not that I'm bitching mind you. |

...it`s also worth considering, how many community radio franchises are still up for grabs all the time, thus making it easy to give a slot to a show, which although broadcast locally, could actually be carried by many local stations, as there is often not enough broadcasters to man the desk all the time.
After midnight, we used to set a computer up to play music until the brekkie guys came in, and all the adverts were preset, it would be good to pre-record new music shows, and use in this format.
...and of course a whole hour devoted to my "One Minute" mix!! |
Like the idea of the radio show .. |
I have a friend (ex-80's musician) in the Midlands who puts together a 30 min - 45 min show every week featuring brand new music (unsigned artists plus a few funny bits, chat and interviews) from his front room.
This show is then uploaded as a (big) MP3 file which people can stream and listen. It goes up on Saturday mornings and we listen to it every week as the music on it is always fresh and different. He gets over 3000 downloads a week - from all over the world, and is now linking up with similar mini stations to swap artists.
You could do the same, putting togther that weeks tips, suggestions, with some (not too much Jonathan - unless you a rant feature each week!) of your opinions on the music, artists, music scene etc. It would be cheap to produce & you could have complete control. And maybe you could have the odd advert on it (as well as a banner ad top right on the KingofHits site).

Tipsheet has the potential to be the centrepiece site in a new online music industry.
First i would ask you to check the actual stats on the site, how many people come, where they come from etc.
If you have enough members, visitors per month, you can use google adsense to recoup some money but you can also offer other services such as consultancy, advice etc.
You can also add a gossip component maybe in conjunction with other sites like popjustice, popbitch etc.
It depends who you want to attract really. If you just want it to be industry only people then it should be geared up this way.
One idea could be perhaps to take a more active role in putting bands together with labels and maybe offer a small annual subscription such as what www.hitquarters.com do but with a more UK/global focus. Also maybe add an mp3 download shop front so anyone who wants to listen to the music in full can download it for a small fee. |

along with RotD's board it is essential reading.
Have suggested elsewhere that a Record of the Week selection could be done on Fridays - 12 tips per week. I suppose if RotD cant do that then why cant The Tipsheet start to do that each week. JK chooses 12 tracks each week to put up and those lucky bands who have been asked to be one of them stump up |
